12 Feb 2018 - Sunday - Day 13 - Mazatlan - beach and Carnaval Parade

woke up to sunshine and birds singing. the flowers were blooming , the bees buzzing, the morning was lovely  Breakfast was a quiet and pleasant affair after which
we fed the birds.

The walk to the Beach is always lovely as there are so many flowers. Bougainvillea  of different colours, butterflies flitting in and around them. The little shops with souvenirs. Kelly was figuring that she needed to get some more so we stopped in at a few shops to look. I picked u some small tiles as I do every year. but only a few.
Lunch of guacamole at the inn was delicious as always. We love the beach. We love the Inn. We love the ocean. We played ten thousand while we sipped our drinks and relaxed in the sunshine. After happy hour we headed for home.

We had a lovely dinner after which Kelly and Margie decided that they would not go and watch the parade as it would involve a lot of standing and waiting. We did not want to buy chairs for just one night and the way the parade was set up you could not put chairs right by the parade route anyway. It was the first time for me to see the parade and I was looking forward to it very much.
Diane and I went to watch the Parade. We walked down the malice to what looked like a good spot and staked out our territory. We had to stand on the middle boulevard as the parade was coming down one side of the Malecon which left the other side open for foot traffic of which there was a lot.
The anticipation in the crowd was palpable, but the interesting thing was that I never heard any kids crying. they were all excited to be there with their families and some of the families were quite extended with grandparents, parents,  aunts, uncles and kids all sitting together at their staked out areas. It was very nice. I bought a green hair wig for my Carnaval souvenir. We saw Colleen and her husband as they walked home from their vantage point of the parade. they walk every where. they are in very good shape.

Diane and I took turns sitting before the actual parade came. There was lots to see and do before the parade came too. Folks dressed up as the Mazatlan unicorn or deer to get your photo with, all kinds of different foods and souvenir vendors all over the place. When the parade did come it did not disappoint. There were amazing decorated giant floats and large marching dancing costumed groups from all over the province and the city.
There were many dance clubs in the city and all of them seemed to be in the parade. It was lovely. A very scary part of the parade was when they came by shooting off fireworks. they hold them in their hands, light them and hold them up at an angle so that when they go off they are pointed in a "safe " direction. I had never seen that before. The safety issues are huge.

there was lots of music and dancing and beautiful costumes and happy people even though we were at the far end of the over 10 mile long parade route.  The  horses with the beautifully traditionally dressed riders brought up the end of the parade and Diane and I headed home.  we had sore legs  and feet from standing all night, but were appy to have seen it all.
When I got back to gaviotas gardens Margie and Kelly had been  spent the evening relaxed in bed watching a horror movie as their fun night. I was tired of standing and just chatted for a bit before falling fast asleep. it had been a great day.
