The weather was perfect for a walk. The sun rise was a little bit misty but very nice. Not to hot and not to cold. Lots of flowers out as it is spring. As we walked along the back road behind the golf course to the wall we saw a man across the wall standing in the back of his truck and looking down at the ground out the back. He asked us if we wanted a picture. "A picture Of what" I called.
A rattlesnake. says he. " A live one?" I ask.
"Yes " says he and so Diane and I quickly found our path over the fence and down the road to where a diamond back rattlesnake was curled up behind his truck. The man, Gerry, told us that he had found it stretched out along his driveway the night before so he caught it and put it into a garbage can to release today.
Gerry said that he had been there for about an hour already as he was waiting for it to uncurl itself so he could measure it to see how long it was and then it would go off into the desert.
He had placed it in a sunny spot to warm up. He then told us how he had passed it several times before he saw it on his driveway. He was lucky he did not step on it. He is a native to the area and you don't meet many pf those. Most if the people we meet are foreigners like us.
We stayed until the snake uncoiled and slithered away.
It was very pretty. I was glad that I got to see a snake in such controlled circumstances. And what a treat for Diane. her first walk out into the desert and she gets to see a diamond back that even rattled its rattles.
On the way back we saw a few killdeer who posed for me so nicely. Also some signs about property that is for sale.
(I will have to check that out as I think that I am interested in the area.)
We were very excited about our adventures and told Mary and Ron all about it when we got back to the house.
