Day seven - Liverpool, Wales, the abbey and Cardiff

Margie and I woke up and went for a walk in the early morning sunshine  to the park across the street from the hotel.
Liverpool in the little park across the road from our hotel.

I sprinkled a bit of M&D in the flower bed by his squadrons emblem in the veterans park. we tried to get some shots of the statues that were around but they were all facing west and sun was rising behind them so they just turned out as black shapes in bright light.
Had a lovely Liverpool buffet breakfast when we got back to the hotel. I am sure that I never eat breakfasts that big at home. Onto the bus promptly at 8 for a rather drizzly ride into Wales and TinternAbbey.
But first we stopped at a rather interesting little town for market day. the young lad and his mother departed the tour here and caught the bus to cardiff so that he could go to the Dr Who Museum before it closed. If I had of thought of it I might have gone too but I can get most things on line so I will go to see the abbey.

It was raining!
I love Wales even in the rain. so green and lush and old. little roads that branch off onto smaller roads. the main roads were not that busy so we made OK time to the abbey. had a quick bite to eat at the restaurant and then went in. It seems that Henry the 8th back when he was becoming the head of the church of England got rid of a whole bunch of catholic abbeys by upping the taxes as it were and if they could not pay the tax they were shut down. Sad but true. the roofs were removed and without a roof nothing can last for long in that kind of wet weather.
we took lots of shots of tall walls with empty windows, read the history plaques scattered here and there. took shots of other people who were on the tour.

I think it was St Mary's Street

see the castle to see the wall.  as the  millionaire rich owner wanted a zoo but the city would not let hem have one so he put lots of animals on the walls.   All of them were lovely and some were very fun looking like they had been partying the night before with some rather rowdy people.
passed the shop with the longest name in wales. LLANFAIRPWLLGWYNGYLLGOGERYCHWYRNDROBWLLLLANNTYSILIOGOGOGOCH
which means
The church of St Mary's in the hollow of the white hazel near the rapid whirlpool and the church of St. Tysilio's by the red cave. Seriously it is that long and means that. I think welsh must be the most difficult language to learn.
